My name is Sabrina Knaus and I am the founder of Primitive K9. 

The Story Behind The Business

The idea of Primitive K9 first began when I found myself the lucky companion of an Alaskan Malamute, Kato. I say companion, and not owner, because anyone who has had a Malamute in their life, knows that no one really “owns” a Malamute.  They truly are a majestic, primitive breed and beat to their own drum! Before Kato, my canine experiences are mostly with Labradors and Collies.

When Kato became a part of my family, I had trouble finding the right style and fit of collars and leashes for my very large dog. There seemed to always be so many options for the small and medium breeds, but very limited for the large breeds. So, with some research and trials, I made him a collar and leash set that could handle the pull of a 150lb dog, and still look stylish while adventuring outdoors.  This quickly brought out the creative side in me and it all took off from there.  Kato is the inspiration behind Primitive K9. Sadly, Kato crossed the Rainbow Bridge March 2023. He is missed every day!

In March of 2021, I welcomed a new pup, Luna.  She is a Husky x Malamute and has thrown a whole new dimension of breed at me!  She has some of the amazing traits of a Malamute, but with the energy and sass of a Husky. She is quite the girl and I love watching her explore.

In August 2023 we welcomed to the family a Husky Cross, Echo. She was adopted through New Hope Dog Rescue. Echo and Luna have become inseparable.

That is a little backstory on the creation of Primitive K9! I hope to bring new and creative designs to the canine world, that you and your dog can feel comfortable, safe and happy to use! When you think of the large Canadian Breeds, I want Primitive K9 to be the brand that comes to mind!
